Eating at a Greek “souvlatzidiko” (souvlaki shop) is a must! The souvlatzidiko is a Greek institution- every town and city has a souvlatzidiko or several. The word “souvla” in Greek is a turning spit for roasting meat. Places that have souvlaki often also have another, related favorite – “Gyros.”
These casual self-service places where you either get your food to go – “paketo” in Greek, or you eat at a table or counter or a stand; usually serve the souvlaki or gyro with no plates, just pieces of paper or a simple metal platter.
They are neighborhood places, beloved by locals, and welcoming to visitors. It’s a great place to get a true taste of Greek life.
Authentic Greek Cuisine
Chef Giannis Kotsos grew up around these institutions in Athens and also owned his own. After moving to Miami to bring the Greek cuisine to south beach he always wanted to open his own here in the states. He opened several successful full service restaurants in Miami and one here recently in Williamsburg but his love is in the “Souvlatzidiko”… it brings him back to his humble beginnings and his passion for quality meats and his array of ingredients that has brought him success across the Atlantic. Chef Gianni Kotsos and Michael Georgoulakos have collaborated together in bringing the “Souvlatzidikio” here in downtown Brooklyn, both have had success in the food industry and plan to serve quality with a touch of Meraki! Our menu here at let’s Go Ya offers nothing but the best in quality and freshness. Our Souvlaki is made from lean, fresh local meat, prepared on the grill rather than fried, with fresh local vegetables and Greek yogurt as the main accompaniments. We offer all the fun of fast food but satisfies like a real meal. Souvlaki is definitely not ‘junk; food and this is not your typical international chain restaurant. It’s very difficult to find a more healthful and pure ‘fast’ food than Greek souvlaki. It is fast to order, but the philosophy behind souvlaki has nothing to do with fast food. We offer the best produce for healthy salads and our combo bowls will leave you wanting more… Let’s go Ya souvlakia! (Let’s go for souvlaki!)
